Looks like they both fit, so we can proceed to finish. The finish is built up from 1/3 lb to 1 lb cut of super blond shellac in 10 coats with paraffin and 0000 steel wool rubbed between coats to burnish and smooth the finish. The Shellac finish brings out the burn marks from sanding on the lathe... See the BandSaw? Wish I had bought that earlier... Things are starting to look better as we get the finish applied... Even Isabella gets to help out with the paraffin and steel wool rubbing phase. The bars connecting the tops of the legs were a late addition. They are turned from 2" maple with tenons on the ends to go into holes drilled into the legs.

Shellac is a great finish to work with. It brings out the grain, it is durable, non-toxic, and child-friendly. The result was definitely worth the effort. And if you have some maple left over you can turn one of these on the lathe too!
